Centuries after the passing away of the Exalted One, his doctrine has undergone various divisions today. Yet, by studying the Early Buddhist sources, it is clear that although the Buddha generally used terms like 'Dhamma', 'Dhammacakka', 'Abhivinaya', 'Dhammavinaya', 'Navaṅgasatthusāsana' etc. to introduce his dhamma, his doctrine was not divided into baskets. In the 'Alagaddūpama Sutta' of the Majjhimanikāya, the Buddha introduced his doctrine as 'Navaṅgasatthusāsana', but it is not indicated clearly in that sutta what the dhamma points belonging to the ninefold dispensation of the teacher Accordingly, our expectation in this study is to study the historical background of different classifications of Buddha's doctrine after his demise and what is the academic basis of that division. Primary and secondary sources are expected to be used in this research, which will be studied under the qualitative research methodology. (navaṅgasatthusāsana) are. In later times, Venerable Buddhaghosa thera in his commentaries stated separately what the dhamma points belonging to the ninefold dispensation of the teacher (Navaṅgasatthusāsana), but there is no unanimity in the academic world about the division. However, the word of the Buddha is specifically divided into three baskets namely Sutta, Vinaya and Abhidhamma after the first and third Buddhist councils. That is a result of several reasons. However, it is necessary to study what is the academic basis and historical background of dividing the Buddha's words into different classifications after his demise, which was oneness during the Buddha's lifetime.
