Challenges in School Guidance and Counseling Services and Recommendations to Address Them

The School Guidance and Counseling service implemented in schools is seen as a unit for the implementation of student welfare activities and as a department that provides appropriate guidance to many students who are at risk. However, it has been observed by many people that this service is facing many challenges and various criticisms are being presented, it is considered the need of the hour to carry out a suitable study related to this service and bring out the current challenges in them and put forward suitable psychological recommendations for them. In fact, when considering whether school guidance and counseling services are seen as a field facing challenges today, the answer cannot be passed with an unequivocal yes. Instead challenging backgrounds are seen as something to be explored on a research basis. From the time when the school counseling service was started, the challenges seen in the appointment of teachers, facilities for counseling in schools, creative training for the teachers involved in this service, appointment of personnel at the zone-provincial level, administrative support, etc., continue to be observed today. Especially the professional stress of the teachers engaged in this service can also be observed in the displacement of the students. A child's first socialization institution is the home. Next to home, schools are socializing students. Children who receive limited learning from their parents at home learn more from teachers at school and peers from diverse family backgrounds. Children's healthy physical-emotional development depends a lot on schools. In that way, it is seen as the need of the hour to bring out the various challenges faced by the teachers associated with this department through appropriate psychological techniques and make recommendations for them.
