A good night’s sleep after two decades: a case report of idiopathic central diabetes insipidus

Diabetes insipidus (DI) is a disease process characterised by passage of large volumes of dilute urine due to either reduced release or response to antidiuretic hormone (ADH) which is also known as arginine vasopressin (AVP). There are two types of DI, central or cranial and nephrogenic. Both of them have congenital or acquired causes. Differentiation of two types of DI is done by water deprivation test. Most of the time no identifiable cause can be determined in central diabetes insipidus, naming it idiopathic central/cranial diabetes insipidus. Here we present a case of idiopathic central DI in a female patient who suffered from the condition for twenty years.
