Abstract

Since the publication of Anne Sayre’s biography on x-ray crystallographer Rosalind Franklin (1920-1958) in 1975, recently deceased James Dewey Watson (1928-2025) had generated an image of negative, unfriendly, male chauvinist type of scientist. However, in my per-sonal interaction with him in 2011 and 2012, I found him as a person blessed with humility and helping mind to younger generation of scientists. In this appreciation, I present this side of Watson’s character.
