Abstract
Falls are a major cause of disability, dependency, and mortality among older adults. This article synthesizes four studies and oration findings to describe the burden, determinants, and prevention strategies for falls among older Sri Lankans. Data from multicentre surveys, a community scoping review, and functional screening validation studies show that one in three older adults experiences a fall each year, with functional dependency emerging as the strongest predictor. Pragmatic interventions including rapid screening tools, medication review, and the establishment of geriatric units and a national falls registry are proposed to promote healthy ageing.
