
A Strategic Framework for Integrating Robotic Technology in Sri Lankan High-Rise Construction: Insights from a Delphi Study on Enablers and Barriers

This study explores the adaptability of robotic technology in precast high-rise construction in Sri Lanka, aiming to identify the enablers and barriers. Further by addressing the challenges associated with the adoption of robotics, this study provides valuable insights into the future of construction automation and its potential to enhance efficiency, safety, and quality in the precast high-rise sector. Furthermore, the study examines the technical feasibility of robotic technology in the construction industry in Sri Lanka. The study involved two rounds of sixteen (16) semi-structured interviews with experts selected through heterogeneous purposive sampling adapting interpretive approach. The data was analysed using manual content analysis. MSVisio data visualisation tool was used to present the findings. This study found that the integration of robotic technology in precast high-rise construction has the potential to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety significantly. The study revealed that while the adoption of robotics in construction can result in reduced labour costs and increased productivity, challenges such as high initial investment costs, limited technical expertise, and resistance to change from workers need to be addressed. This study offers a unique contribution to the field of construction by exploring the integration of robotic technology in precast high-rise construction, an area that remains under-researched, especially in developing countries like Sri Lanka. The study adds value by addressing the gap in understanding the real-world challenges and benefits of robotics adoption in construction projects.
