Key Influencing Factors Toward Switching to Solar Technology by Households in Western Province, Sri Lanka
Abstract
Modern technological advancement has significantly contributed to achievebenefits through renewable energy generation. Itharnessed from sources such as sunlight, wind, and water, and offers a promising path towards a sustainable energy future. Out of several technologies, the world payssignificant attention towards solar technology. Despite the global trend towards solar technology adoption, locally, acceptation level in Sri Lanka is poor. This study employs a quantitative approach to identify the factors that influence the switch towards solar technology by domestic households in the Western Province, Sri Lanka and used various statistical analysing tools such as MS Excel, SPSS and Smart PLS forsurvey data analysis. Researcher conducted an in-depth literature review to clearly identify and develop the research gap and other theoretical aspects. One aim of this study is to assess the current intentions of domestic households to adopt solar systems. Further, based on a descriptive analysis of specific survey questions, it has been identified that there is prevailing positive attitude towards solar technology adoption within the province. Moreover, the researcher analytically identifiedkey influencing factors affecting the adoption of solar technology. This outcome has considerable implications for policy makers in Sri Lanka, industry players, and researchers interested in sustainable energy options. Accordingly, outcome of this research will immensely contribute to achieve sustainable energy goals and realize the objectives in line with national interests of Sri Lanka.
