Abstract
The patent system is intended to incentivize research and development by granting inventors or patent holders exclusive rights for a limited amount of time in exchange for publicly disclosing information about their inventions. This has both advantages and disadvantages for diffusion of innovations process. Patent licensing is one of the tools that help to diffuse legal rights associated with patents. With the help of diffusion of innovations theory, variations of licensing agreements and network analysis, it is possible to create diffusion pipelines to maximize the diffusion of licensing rights while respecting interests of parties involved. Further research is needed however on various topics such as antitrust issues.
