Abstract
This article discusses why and how economic sanctions can be used when dealing with environmental crimes. Identifying effective, proportionate and dissuasive penalties for those who commit environmental harm is a challenging task. This opinion piece will therefore list several crucial aspects of the multidimensional problem that is environmental crime.
