Abstract

In this special issue of Tellus B, results of the first of a series of joint European field campaigns concerning ground-base cloud experiments (GCE) are reported. The present paper illuminates the background of the experiment before giving answers to the questions of what GCE did achieve in the Po Valley experiment, what lessons have been learned on the way and where ground-based cloud research does go from there.
