Abstract
A method is presented for the use of upper winds to construct a chart for the horizontal distribution of advective tendencies in the layer 1000–500 mb. A 24-hour prognostic thicknesschart can then be constructed from these advective tendencies. The method has been tested in a few weather situations in Europe, especially the one of Jan. 30–Feb. 2, 1953.
