Validation study of scale selection in low-order models of Rayleigh-Bénard convection

Abstract

The scale selection properties of some low-order models of Rayleigh-Bénard convection are compared with the results of some high-order models.The results of the high-order models are inconsistent with those of two previously proposed low-order models in some selected experiments. A new low-order model is offered that is consistent with the high-order models.
