Abstract

We estimate that recent increases in organic carbon accumulation in the sediments of lakes and reservoirs amount to about 0.02. 10¹⁵ gC yr^-1 and 0.2. 10¹⁵ gC yr^-1, respectively. The reservoir accumulation represents a small but significant fraction of the carbon missing in current global budgets.
