Abstract

On the basis of chemical analysis of aerosol samples collected over the seas around the Asian continent, the sulfate, chloride and sodium concentrations in maritime air are presented. By using the sodium content of the air and the average composition of the sea water, the magnitude of the chloride loss from sea-salt as well as the excess sulfate concentration are calculated. The results are discussed from the point of view of the HCl cycle and sulfate particle formation.
