Abstract

In a recent paper Broecker & Peng (1971) published measurements of the vertical distribution of 222 Radon in the upper layers of the ocean in the Bomex area (about 15° N, 46° W). The authors estimate from these measurements under the assumption of a constant eddy diffusion coefficient Kz that in the upper 20 meters Kz > 160 cm2 sec-1 and in a depth between 20 m and 80 m that Kz must be about 4 cm2 sec-1.
