Abstract

In continuation of a previous study, the global monsoonal response of the atmosphere is computed within the framework of a quasi-geostrophic model. The input parameters are the ground temperature, mountain heights and the zonal mean state at 45° N. A parameterized heating function given in the earlier work is utilized. Lateral friction, conduction and mountains are also taken into account. It is found that the computed global monsoons are closer in phase and magnitude to the observed ones. The energetics and the other interesting results are discussed.
