Abstract
An iterative numerical method is presented for the computation of seiches in oblong lakes, bays and channels. The method is based on numerical forward integration of the governing equations and on an original iterative technique. Results from the application of the method to various basins show that the method is reliable, very stable and efficient. The application of the method to similar eigenvalue problems, occurring frequently in many branches of continuum mechanics, is discussed briefly. There is no apparent reason why the method would not be applicable to such problems.
