Abstract

Critical Rayleigh numbers are computed for a two-layer model of fluid heated from below in two cases; namely, the upper layer possesses (a) an infinite coefficient of heat conduction, or (b) a large negative Rayleigh number. Case (b) has already been studied by Gribov & Gurevich (1957), but because of an incorrect numerical evaluation, it is reconsidered here.
