Abstract
A formula for the normal temperature of the earth's surface is derived from a simple semi-empirical representation of the surface heat balance. Computations from the formula, for January and July conditions along 45° N Latitude, indicate the usefulness of such a representation as an interfacial sea-air-land boundary condition for dynamical models of macroclimate.
