Abstract

On a synoptic scale the distributions of vertical velocities and precipitation in connection with a certain frontal zone have been investigated utilizing data from one of the meteorological world intervals of the I.G.Y.

Vertical velocities of about 10–30 cm sec−1 in the middle troposphere, upward in the cold air and downward in the warm air, have been computed and the results are in very good agreement with the distributions of the observed humidity and the observed and computed precipitation.
