Abstract

Empirical results indicating similar turbulent transfer for cloud droplets and for water vapour or sensible heat have been used in order to derive a set of prognostic equations for the total moisture content and for the equivalent potential temperature. With given external conditions, especially imposed vertical velocity the equations can be used for forecasting the formation and development of layer clouds. An example of practical application is discussed.
