Affective Conflict Transportation? Everyday Presence of Conflict among People of Somali Origin in Finland

This article explores conflict transportation among people with a Somali background in Finland by focusing on how it is felt every day. By focusing on affect, the article highlights the contradictive and differentiated dynamics at play in conflict transportation and how it is located and navigated in everyday practices. The findings show how conflict transportation is simultaneously reinforced and resisted as well as how it is a non-static, fluid phenomenon that is experienced day-to-day life as well as tied deeply to belonging. The article argues that an affective approach to conflict transportation helps undo essentialising notions of diasporic spaces and calls for research on diasporas and conflict that is also located outside of politically mobilised diasporic spaces.
