Reconstruction of the Marine Paleo-Habitat of Dobrogea/Dobrudja Area from the Triassic Period
Abstract
This article analyzes a method for reconstructing the marine paleo-habitat from the Triassic Period in Dobrogea. A reconstruction of a paleo-habitat, in general, requires a good understanding of the natural setting and the living conditions of the animal organisms that are representative of it. To realize that, it was necessary to use the free Quantum GIS (QGIS) application, designed for data processing in a GIS environment, and the SQLite file format for temporary data storage. Data processing provided a general picture of the northwestern boundary of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean, an area with shallow, warm waters (temperatures of 20-25°C), medium salinity, well-aerated conditions, and a generally sandy substrate.
