Abstract
Shepherding and transhumance have diminished, almost disappeared, even in Mărginimea Sibiului, once known for shepherding. Along with the profession, the specific vocabulary of this profession has also disappeared, which includes names of animals, specific products and a series of aspects related to its organization. Few speakers today know what pohar, țurcan, boc or carabașe mean. However, the vocabulary of the Romanian language preserves some pastoral terms that have a reduced circulation today, in expressions and idioms that give flavor to the language, but also in Romanian family names. This article presents this reflection of pastoral terms in onomastics.
