Withdrawal of 20 Manuscript Records Inadvertently Made Available Online Due to an Administrative and Technical Error

Open Access
|Oct 2026

Full Article

The Editorial Office of Quantum Information & Computation hereby withdraws the online publication records associated with the 20 manuscripts identified in Appendix A and confirms that the full-text versions of these manuscripts have been removed from the journal's website.

This withdrawal was initiated by the journal because an internal administrative and technical error caused the manuscripts to be processed and temporarily made available online in early July 2026 before completion of the journal's required editorial procedures.

Reason for withdrawal: Premature online publication caused by an internal administrative communication and production workflow error before completion of preliminary editorial screening, academic assessment, formal peer review, final editorial acceptance, and authorization for publication.

Background

At the time the manuscripts appeared online, they remained at the preliminary editorial screening stage. They had been submitted to the journal and were intended to undergo an initial assessment by the academic editors to determine whether they were suitable to proceed to formal peer review.

During routine internal correspondence concerning these submissions, members of the production and publication team were inadvertently included in a communication that was mistakenly interpreted as authorization to proceed with publication. As a result, the manuscripts were processed and made publicly available without completing the journal's required editorial and peer-review procedures.

None of the 20 manuscripts had completed formal peer review, received final editorial acceptance, or received valid authorization for publication. Their temporary appearance on the journal's website therefore did not constitute valid publication in accordance with the journal's established editorial procedures.

Because the records had been made publicly accessible, assigned DOIs and, in some cases, transferred to indexing services, this formal withdrawal notice is being published to correct the online and bibliographic record.

The withdrawal applies to the publication records that were created and disseminated in error. It does not indicate that the authors requested withdrawal of their submissions, nor does it represent a withdrawal resulting from any action or omission by the authors.

This action results solely from the journal's internal administrative communication and production workflow error. It should not be interpreted as an assessment of the scientific validity of the manuscripts or as a finding or allegation of research misconduct by any of the authors.

Corrective Actions

Immediately after the error was identified, the Editorial Office initiated an internal review, revoked the affected records' publication status, and removed the full-text versions of all 20 manuscripts from the journal's website.

A subsequent verification established that 19 of the affected records had already been transferred to and indexed in Web of Science. One additional record had not yet been indexed in Web of Science at the time of verification but may have been in the indexing pipeline.

The journal contacted Clarivate's Web of Science and other relevant indexing services to request correction or removal of the 19 indexed records and discontinuation of processing of the remaining record.

The affected manuscript titles, authors, DOIs, Web of Science accession numbers and verification status are provided in Appendix A. These identifiers are retained solely to ensure that readers, libraries, repositories and indexing services can accurately identify the records affected by this withdrawal.

The affected records must not be regarded, cited or relied upon as formally published and peer-reviewed articles of Quantum Information & Computation. If any of these records remain visible in an indexing service, repository, citation database or other third-party system, the withdrawn status established by this notice shall apply.

Measures Implemented

  1. revised manuscript-transfer protocols that clearly separate preliminary editorial screening from production and publication workflows;

  2. mandatory workflow-status tagging identifying each manuscript's current editorial status and restricting production access where appropriate;

  3. enhanced verification and written authorization procedures between the editorial and production teams before any content may be published online; and

  4. additional staff training concerning editorial workflows, publication authorization and procedural compliance.

Statement from the Editorial Office

The Editorial Office regrets this incident and any confusion it may have caused to the affected authors, readers, indexing services, libraries, repositories and other members of the scholarly community.

The journal is committed to maintaining the integrity, transparency and reliability of the scholarly record. This notice is published as a permanent and openly accessible record of the incident, the withdrawn status of the affected manuscript records and the corrective measures undertaken by the journal.
