Abstract

The Republic of Moldova’s macroeconomic environment is examined in this article, identifying the main issues affecting the development and competitiveness of businesses, such as limited access to foreign markets, low levels of innovation, a shortage of skilled human capital, financing difficulties, and insufficient cooperation between economic actors. Therefore, the purpose of the research is to analyze the role of economic clusters as a strategic solution to overcome these challenges and stimulate sustainable economic development. The methodology used is based on statistical analysis of macroeconomic indicators and aggregate data, applying descriptive and comparative methods.

In the present study, the findings indicate that cluster development contributes to increasing competitiveness, stimulating innovation, attracting investment, and strengthening economic cooperation, while also providing opportunities for regional development and the integration of enterprises into broader economic networks. In this context, the article’s contribution lies in justifying the cluster approach as an economic policy tool, adapted to the particularities of the Moldovan economy and oriented towards capitalising on the potential for sustainable development.
