Online Fraud in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: A Behavioral Economics Perspective

Online fraud is an increasingly researched topic in recent years. For this reason, this paper aims to analyze the connection between cyberattacks and aspects related to the individual’s behavior. To better understand this, two bibliometric analyses were used. The first focusing on digital fraud, and the second on how users react to these cyberattacks. The purpose of the two analyses is to have an overview of the research carried out in the field of online fraud, but also a better understanding of the role played by behavioral economics. The results showed that there is interest in researching these two topics, especially since the technology has continued to develop a lot and new tools such as artificial intelligence have emerged. Moreover, the analysis also focused on the categories that have been published in the last 10 years in relation to digital fraud and the implications on user behavior. Also, the countries to which the authors who have produced such articles and publications per year belong have been taken into account, because it represents a good way to understand in depth the phenomenon studied.
