Knowledge Management as a Human-Centered Dynamic Capability for Business Model Transformation

Abstract

Organizations increasingly operate in environments characterized by rapid technological change, market volatility and continuous business model transformation. In this context, knowledge management has become a critical organizational capability supporting learning, innovation and strategic adaptability. While the dynamic capabilities perspective explains how organizations sense, seize and transform opportunities, recent research highlights the importance of human-centered micro-foundations, including leadership adaptability, talent alignment and organizational culture.

This paper proposes a conceptual framework that positions knowledge management as a multi-level, human-centered capability enabling business model transformation and sustainable performance. The framework integrates insights from the knowledge creation theory of Nonaka and Takeuchi, the knowledge dynamics perspective developed by Brătianu, and the dynamic managerial capabilities approach. It emphasizes the role of tacit knowledge, emotional and motivational factors, and purpose-driven organizational cultures in facilitating knowledge sharing and organizational learning.

At the individual level, talent alignment supports the effective utilization of personal knowledge, strengths and energy. At the leadership level, adaptive leaders facilitate knowledge integration, interpretation and strategic learning. At the organizational level, cultural coherence and trust create the conditions for knowledge sharing. These mechanisms enable business model innovation and organizational resilience.

The paper contributes to the knowledge management literature by proposing a human-centered perspective that connects individual knowledge potential, leadership practices and organizational culture with strategic transformation. Managerial implications highlight the importance of talent diagnostics, leadership development for learning agility, and the design of purpose-driven knowledge environments. Future research directions include empirical testing of the proposed relationships across industries and organizational contexts, particularly in emerging economies.
