The Digitalization of the Decision-Making Process in Romanian Organizations: Between Opportunity and Financial Challenge
Abstract
Today’s managers are faced with radical organizational changes, felt not only in the operational area, but also in the decision-making process. Thus, the way they make decisions takes on a new approach, with digital technologies being introduced into the context. However, while the perception or overall efficiency of such digitalized decisions is often considered, the financial perspective often remains a less important concern for researchers. Moreover, the specialized literature, especially that from Romania, is unfortunately still not sufficiently developed in this direction, not having explored the economic and financial considerations of the digitalization of the decision-making process. Surely, all of this is largely due to the relative novelty of this phenomenon, nonetheless, it remains extremely important to observe whether digital transformation brings only opportunities or also financial challenges to the said process. Therefore, this research takes into account the still emerging stage of the literature and aims to complement it by conducting a qualitative study, focused on determining managers’ perspective on the financial side of the digitalization of the decision-making process. Accordingly, the central question and general objective of this paper will be to analyze the impact of the digitalization of this process by determining the economic and financial implications. The chosen study methodology is built around a semi-structured interview, the application of which takes place among several managers from Romanian organizations. The research results will provide real and up-to-date insights into aspects such as the financial impact of digitalized decisions as well as potential financial-economic challenges. Through these, the article will consolidate both Romanian and international scientific literature, bringing a significant contribution to the understanding of the phenomenon of digitalization of the decision-making process from a financialeconomic perspective.
