In recent decades, climate change has put pressure on farmers to invest in efficient irrigation systems to keep their crops competitive. Given the importance of agriculture in securing food resources in the years to come, the reduction of water sources and the benefits of using renewable energy sources, the topic of irrigation using efficient photovoltaic panel-powered systems has been often discussed in the literature, especially in countries with a warm climate. Romania has a temperate-continental climate, beneficial for growing cereals, such as maize, but in recent years, especially in areas with low rainfall, the integration of irrigation systems has become strictly necessary. Thus, this research aims to contribute to the literature by providing an analysis of possible solutions for the development of such an efficient drip irrigation system powered by photovoltaic panels for an agricultural field in Romania. The use of such a system ensures crop yields are economically efficient and contributes to reducing emissions by replacing the use of fossil fuels. The information provided in this article is of interest to farmers, landowners or farmers’ associations interested in developing such a system. The article provides information on components, possible sizing options, approximate costs and benefits, and aims to highlight the advantages of these systems.
