Abstract

The first article in this series outlines the most important principles of decompression from a physical and medical perspective. It describes the current state of knowledge regarding decompression tables, their application and limitations, as well as the growing trend of replacing independent planning of safe decompression with the use of various dive computers. Examples are also given of accidents resulting from various disruptions to the correct execution of compression and decompression.
