Optimisation Modelling of Reservoir Properties – A Comparative Study Between Hydrodynamic and Geophysical Investigations

Abstract

This research addresses the critical challenge of reconciling reservoir permeability values derived from two distinct methods: Geophysical Well Logging and Hydrodynamic Pressure Transient Analysis (PTA). While geophysical methods provide high-resolution vertical data, they often overestimate permeability due to formation damage and filtrate invasion. Conversely, hydrodynamic testing yields effective permeability reflecting true flow capacity but lacks vertical detail. This study calculates key gas properties (density, viscosity, and Z-factor) to perform a pressure build-up analysis, revealing a significant discrepancy between the measured effective permeability (4.67mD) and log-derived estimates (up to 140.225 mD). The primary contribution is the development of an optimized mathematical model that integrates shale volume (Vsh) to calibrate geophysical logs against real-world hydrodynamic performance.
