Abstract
Starting from the remark that in the 20th and early 21st century open pits have experienced an unprecedented expansion, the paper analyzes the current and future concerns related to the open pits of useful mineral substances and highlights with concrete data and notable achievements all the activities carried out in an open pit, finally presenting the technical-economic indicators obtained in Romanian open pits.
