High-temperature oxidation of high-alloyed steel

Abstract

The study deals with the evaluation of oxidic layers formed on the surface of turbogenerator during operation. Material oxidation is one of the basic types of corrosion, which are distinguished in low-temperature oxidation under 300°C and high-temperature oxidation above 300°C. The oxide formed on the surface of the base material consisted of several layers, depending on the chemical composition of the steel, operation temperature, time of exposure and working environment. High- -temperature oxidation may lead to reduction in the cross-section of the part, clogging and deposition of released particles of oxidic layers and their abrasive impact on the internal surface of the part when drifted by the medium. Obviously, this phenomenon is undesirable for the operator, since it reduces the service life and efficiency of the equipment.
