Territorial Patterns of Common Agricultural Policy Aid in Extremadura (Spain) through Multivariate Clustering Analysis

Abstract

The research analyzes the distribution of Common Agricultural Policy aids in Extremadura (Spain) between 2000 and 2020, to identify territorial patterns at the municipal level and to assess aid information together with socioeconomic and agricultural variables, and Multivariate Cluster Analysis techniques were applied together with Geographic Information Systems to relate these factors. The results show that, although the reforms have contributed positively to the strengthening of Extremadura’s agricultural sector, the areas affected by depopulation and aging require more effective support. Although these measures have boosted rural development, it is still necessary to strengthen the sector to prevent territorial inequalities from persisting and worsening in the most vulnerable territories.
