Three-dimensional computed craniofacial tomography (3D-CT): potential uses and limitations
Abstract
Aims
To determine the potential uses and limitations of 3D-CT craniofacial imaging in contemporary clinical practice.
Methods
The relevant historical and contemporary literature was reviewed.
Results
There would seem to be many potential uses for 3D-CT craniofacial imaging in clinical practice. Significant limitations may, however, relate to the availability and cost of such imaging and the delivered radiation dose.
Conclusions
With continued research and development, the use of such 3D-CT craniofacial imaging techniques may become appropriate for future orthodontic and clinical diagnostic applications.
