Abstract
Statistics is used in a great deal of research and in the literature. This is the first of a series of articles on the basic concepts of statistics, and how they are applied in practice. The articles are written to help clinicians read the literature with understanding; to help researchers use statistics effectively, and to help them take advantage of statistical consultants to get maximum benefit from their research.
