Neuroscience nursing conferences play an important role in regard to our learning, collaborating, reflecting and socialising with fellow neuroscience colleagues. There is also the opportunity to share our learning through the submission of an abstract for either an oral or poster presentation. In July 2025 the World Federation of Neuroscience Nurses (WFNN) in collaboration with the Australasian Neuroscience Nurses Association (ANNA) held the long awaited and Covid-19 delayed congress in Darwin. It was an amazing event to be part of and to have to privilege of presenting at.
We had nurses attending from across the globe and from an amazingly diverse range of fields of practice, it was also wonderful to see nurses with a broad range of experience, the conversations that I was a part of were engaging and thought provoking. These opportunities fostered networking opportunities and during the event I was able to establish and build valuable connections. It is easy to underestimate the benefits of attending conferences. We can stay up to date by engaging with sponsors and learning about new products, research and procedures regarding new products, these are simply invaluable opportunities in regard to stay ahead of industry trends and innovations..
The professional learning opportunities were also incredible and diverse.
I attended a great number of sessions including individual oral presentations, workshops, plenary and panel discussions and the breakfast sessions. Having such a diverse offering is integral to meeting the needs of nurses. The business events team were central to the running of the event and along with our sponsors made this happen. This included the beautifully produced certificates and presentation prizes. It was wonderful to see people receive their gifts and with amazements realise that some of them were handmade. The time and effort that went into the planning and running of the congress was unmeasurable.
I also have to acknowledge the husbands and partners who have all been amazing during this journey of planning and delivering the congress. I am really pleased that they had some down time and got to undertake some great activities including jet skiing and museum exploring. These were certainly well-earned activities.
Following the congress, there was time to reflect and like any event, feedback plays an important role in acknowledging not only what well, but also where things might be improved. We hope that the event was a positive one for all those who attended and we are looking forward to 2029 Quebec City.
