Cercetare Arheologică Preventivă La Biserica Fortificată Din ȘaroȘ Pe Târnavă, Jud. Sibiu
Abstract
On the north side in S4 and S5, northern collateral foundations were identified. In S5 we have the elbow and the west side of the collateral. The foundation of the north side in S5 shows that it weaves with the foundation of the present nave of the church. Also, at the level of the foundations, the buttresses are attached to the nave of the current church. The chancel had two phases of construction as shown by the elevation standing on older foundations. On the south side of the choir in S1 we notice that the foundations of the buttress and the choir are woven together, having been raised in the Gothic phase of the church (15th century). Section S2 on the south side shows the existence of an older foundation, which probably belongs to the construction phase of the basilica with three naves (13th-14th centuries). Both sections (S1 and S2) show that from the elevation the walls are narrower than the foundations and are constructed of a different type of stone and mortar. The choir either had a period of stagnation and was later raised with other materials and according to a different plan, or it underwent a total reconstruction.
