How are we to make sense of the rising global hegemonic rivalry between the United States and China, and what role does Latin America have in it, given that its historical ties with the US are being redefined by China’s growing influence in the hemisphere? In Latin America, China, and Great Power Competition: New Triangular Relationships, Enrique Dussel Peters, professor of Economics and director of the Center for Chinese-Mexican Studies at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), examines Latin America’s transformative economic exchanges and partnerships with multiple Chinese actors as a way to assess how these developments create new historical dynamics that place Latin American and Caribbean societies at the center of on-going disputes between the US and China. From the onset, the author states that his goal is to offer new data-driven knowledge that could assist in formulating better regional developmental policies.

En Latin America, China, and Great Power Competition: New Triangular Relationships, Enrique Dussel Peters, profesor de Economía y director del Centro de Estudios Chino-Mexicanos de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), examina los transformadores intercambios económicos y alianzas de América Latina con múltiples actores chinos como forma de evaluar cómo estos desarrollos crean nuevas dinámicas históricas que sitúan a las sociedades latinoamericanas y caribeñas en el centro de disputas continuas entre Estados Unidos y China. Desde el principio, el autor afirma que su objetivo es ofrecer nuevos conocimientos basados en datos que puedan ayudar a formular mejores políticas regionales de desarrollo.
