Dear VLA Members,
Change is an inevitable part of life, and every morning, I greet it with a sense of anticipation. As I reflect on the many changes that shape our world, I am reminded of how the Virginia Library Association (VLA) continues to evolve, even as we honor the work that has brought us to this moment.
This month, we face a significant transition as our beloved Lisa Varga moves on to a new chapter in Washington, D.C. While we will certainly miss her leadership and vision, we wholeheartedly wish her success and fulfillment in this exciting next step.
As we look ahead, I want to reassure you that while we are saying goodbye to an era of effective leadership, we are also embracing a future full of opportunity. Here’s what will remain steadfast at VLA:
Responsive Leadership: We are committed to maintaining an open and engaging leadership team that listens to your needs and provides timely, informed feedback.
Advocacy for Libraries: You can continue to count on us to provide information and resources that help advocate for libraries, librarians, and library professionals.
Commitment to You: The dedication and passion of our Executive Committee and Council will remain as strong as ever. We are here to support you, just as we have in the past.
As we search for our next Executive Director, we are partnering with Bradbury Miller Associates to guide us through the process. We value your input during this transition, so please feel free to share how you would like to engage with VLA and what resources or support you need. Additionally, if you know individuals outside of our association who can bring fresh perspectives or expertise, we encourage you to invite them to contribute to our journey forward.
Change, while sometimes daunting, is also a powerful catalyst for growth. Together, we can shape the future of VLA, advancing our mission to empower libraries and their communities. As Mahatma Gandhi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world." With your voice and involvement, we will continue to rise—because “With Libraries, We all Rise.”
Thank you for your continued commitment and dedication to our shared mission. I am excited for the possibilities ahead, and I look forward to working with all of you as we move forward into a new and vibrant chapter for the Virginia Library Association.
Warm regards,
Vivian F. Washington, VLA President
