Abstract

Dr. Catharine Bond Hill, Dr. Michael Fried, and Emily Schwartz discuss the underrepresentation of veterans in colleges and universities that have high graduation rates. They share insights and strategies from working at Ithaka S+R that encourage broader enrollment in such schools, with the aim of increasing the rate at which veterans are able to complete college degrees. We discussed the importance of several factors that can support enrollment in high-graduation-rate schools, including fully communicating veterans’ achievement and skills to admissions offices, veterans’ education being a priority of high-level college leadership, flexible credit transfer policy, and social belonging in supporting veterans’ access to high-graduation rate schools.
