Een keizerlijke collectie in Doorn: Wilhelm II en de fotografie

In Kasteel Huis Doorn bevindt zich de bijzondere fotocollectie die de Duitse
keizer Wilhelm II in 1920 naar zijn ballingsoord liet komen. Pas in 1997, toen
een begin werd gemaakt met de inventarisatie van de verzameling bleek dat
deze een groot aantal historische en fotohistorische hoogtepunten bevat. De
twaalfduizend foto 's leren ons onder andere veel over hoe Wilhelm II het medium
fotografie gebruikte ten behoeve van zijn eigen beeldvorming.

An imperial collection in Doorn. William II and photography

The unusual collection of photographs brought by the German emperor William II to his country of exile in 1920 can be found in Doorn Castle. It was not until 1997, when inventory of the collection began, that it appeared that the collection held a large number of historical and photo-historical highlights. The twelve thousand photos divulge a lot about how William II used photography to create his own image. Ruitenberg provides a first carefully worded description of the collection. The photographs also depict the various photographic techniques that were used at the beginning of the age of photography.
