Abstract

Ken Bugul’s novel entitled Aller et retour is built on the issue of wandering, a plural wandering that reveals troubles of characters. This work aims to show how different patterns arising from this issue, become tools and narrative rituals for a character in search of others and in a process of self-rebuilding. To achieve this goal, we borrowed concepts from postclassical narratology, specifically psychonarratology. This methodological approach allows us, on the one hand, to linger on the psychocognitive processes and mechanisms used to tell stories. On the other hand, with the off-line method in relation to the analysis of verbal production, we bring out narrative reasoning and competence as well as the author’s cognitive style. In this logic, we decrypt the chronotope of the wanderer, his language throughout his diegetic journey, the meanings of his strolls and wandering as a conditioning participation in the subject’s therapy.
