The Social Bases for Exclusion of Sport from Caribbean Economic Development: Identity Formation vs Capital Accumulation

One of the salient developments of the 20th century, particularly its last two decades, was the increasing commercialisation of sport and its transformation into an important pole of capital accumulation and economic development consistent with the expansionist dynamics of capitalism on an international scale. This development however did not take place over night and has not taken place at the same pace and to the same degree either across the world or across all sports.
