Abstract

Health, Healing and Shalom, Frontiers and Challenges for Christian Health Missions seeks to redress the compartmentalization and imbalance of spiritual versus physical care which plagues many in healthcare missions. It provides both a theological basis and practical ideas to enable healthcare missionaries to practice holistic care. Contributors have themselves practiced according to a definition of health as being a state of complete physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being, and not merely the absence of disease. A variety of specialized areas are presented, including short-term missions, Community Health Evangelism, HIV/AIDS, the impact of trauma, and palliative care. This should be exciting reading for those who wish to minister to the whole person, as Jesus did.
