Abstract

The Tree of Life: Wisdom in Health Choices is inspired by Genesis 2:16-17, in which God forbids Adam to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The parallel drawn in this poem between this prohibition from the most High and the choices at our hand regarding our health is this: what we elect to eat, to live, or to care for ourselves receives monumental consequences. Just as the freedom of choice was given to Adam but the consequences that were being told of should he disobey, so also have modern individuals been presented with the freedom of choice of their habits, which directly binds into their physical and mental well-being. The poem underscores the importance of wisdom and simplicity in making healthy decisions, highlighting that living in alignment with divine guidance, valuing both the body and the mind, and avoiding the temptation of excess can lead to a balanced, healthy life. Through this reflection, the poem encourages readers to honor life and health by making informed choices, emphasizing that true wealth and health lie in wisdom, moderation, and grace. The poem connects, on one end, the biblical teachings with the understanding of health and well-being given to man today. It has both spiritual and pragmatic lessons towards a fulfilling and healthy life.
