We are pleased to present our new issue on Aortic Disease: The Spectrum of Care. Guest editor Alan B. Lumsden, MD, has guided this exploration of the major types of aortic disease and their various options for treatment and repair.
As a leading surgeon, educator, and medical director of the DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center, Dr. Lumsden shares a broad perspective on treating aortic diseases and other cardiovascular conditions. We greatly appreciate all the authors who have contributed their expertise and insights on aortic disease in this issue.
The articles offered here review the range of pathologies, as well as new options for treating aortic disease. The causes of aortic disease vary from genetic conditions to inflammatory disorders, exacerbated by environmental influences and factors such as hypertension, aging, and trauma. While preventive and pharmacological interventions continue to be explored, surgery or endovascular intervention remain the recommended solution for treating most cases.
Several articles in this issue include videos of the procedures discussed, to further enhance the educational value of the article. We also encourage you to explore the many videos related to diseases of the aorta available at the DeBakey Cardiovascular Education YouTube channel.
