LiDAR-based DEM visual interpretation as a tool for landslide mapping – example of problems with landslide identification and its verification with electrical resistivity tomography
Abstract
LiDAR-based Digital Elevation Models (DEM) have become one of the most valuable sources for landslide mapping. However, the delineation of landforms is not always clear. The study aims to apply DEM for landslide mapping, verified through field investigations and geophysical surveys. Visual interpretation of DEM, manual vectorization, and electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) profiles was performed in this research. While visual interpretation proves to be a highly effective method, it is not without limitations. ERT has demonstrated strong potential as a point-specific validation tool, but has limitations on shallow landslides. The study also highlights that even the highest resolution of DEM data cannot fully capture the complexity of landslide landforms.
