Advancing Integrated Care Education and Training: Spotlighting Co-Designed Models and System-Level Change

Background: Integrated care education and training (ICET) is gaining momentum globally, yet challenges persist in embedding competencies across disciplines, systems, and cultures. Building on the outcomes of the ICIC25 workshop and post-event survey, this session will explore progress in integrating IC competencies into training programs, workforce development, and public health literacy. Emphasis will be placed on co-designed models that center people with lived experience and address structural barriers to implementation.

Audience: This workshop is designed for educators, researchers, health professionals, policymakers, and individuals with lived experience who are engaged in or interested in integrated care education and training. We aim to foster dialogue among stakeholders committed to advancing inclusive, values-driven, and competency-based IC education across sectors and geographies.

Approach: Duration: 60 minutes

Format: Roundtable setup with interactive components

• Welcome & Framing (10 min) – Introduction to ICET priorities and goals for the session
• Spotlight Case Presentations (15 min) – Examples from Alaska, Canada, and New Zealand showcasing co-designed IC training models (Viktoria & invited speakers)
• Interactive Roundtable Discussions (25 min) – Participants will engage in facilitated small-group discussions around four core themes:

1.Embedding IC competencies across education levels

2.Inclusion of people with lived experience

3.Mentorship and workplace culture

4.Interprofessional postgraduate training

• Synthesis & Next Steps (10 min) – Sharing insights from discussions and outlining opportunities for collaboration, including post-workshop meet-up and advisory group formation

Outcomes:Participants will leave with:

• Concrete examples of integrated care education models that reflect shared competencies and co-design principles
• Strategies for embedding IC competencies in curricula and professional development
• Insights into structural and cultural barriers and how to address them
• Opportunities to join ongoing ICET initiatives, including mentorship networks and advisory groups
